On August 28, 2007 Todd Endris was surfing in Monterey Bay, California when he was rammed by an 18 foot Great White Shark. Knocked off his board the shark returned to attack him two more times.

With his back ripped open exposing his spine, with half of his blood gone and his leg entirely down the shark's mouth, Todd fought back violently. The shark let go of him and circled allowing his victim to bleed to death but today wasn't Todd's day to die.

Rallying to his side creating a defensive wall a frenzied pod of bottle-nosed dolphins intervened helping to save his life. Todd's surfing buddies risked their lives to get him to the beach and heroically helped to save Todd's life. It took 700 stitches to close the 40 inch wide bite.

Todd Endris' story is inspirational and reveals man's ability to defy all odds. It's a story of bravery, courage, and the fascinating relationship between man and dolphin that we are still trying to understand.

Our heartfelt thanks to our friend Dean Bernal for helping us to understand wild dolphins. Dean is world-famous for his twenty year relationship with a wild dolphin named JoJo. Dean's current passion are his two projects, the JoJo Project in the Turks & Caicos Islands which protects and takes care of JoJo the Dolphin and his habitat and his Dolphin, Whale and Marine Wildlife Foundation in the USA which conducts research, provides education, and preserves marine wildlife and habitats.
